Training on Sustainable Black Pepper & Sudan Dye Precaution

Last February, we held a training session for farmers on sustainable pepper, with the goal of enhancing their capacity and awareness on the importance of public health.

A key focus of the session was the highlighted recommendation to completely refrain from Sudan dye – a red coloring agent known to pose cancer risks.

 

To protect the credibility of the Simexco black pepper value chain, we strongly recommend storing black pepper in white bags, sun drying on white tarps, and using white baskets, etc. as Sudan dye may stick to red-colored materials and contaminate the product.

To make the training more practical, farmers were provided with white bags and tarps. This not only helps preserve the quality of the product but also supports the sustainable development of the local pepper-growing industry.

 

Beyond the in-person meetings, 30 Simexco field officers have been actively promoting this message, even in extreme weather conditions in remote pepper-growing regions. Their ongoing efforts demonstrate Simexco’s commitment to spreading these recommendations to all farmers, ensuring product quality, and positioning Vietnam as a key player in the black pepper industry.
